Izzy Ort’s Bar and Grille opens.

Operated by Isidore Ort, the jazz club is located at 25 Essex Street. Ort, a colorful New Yorker and friend of Jimmy Durante, provides work for a number of developing Boston musicians while the club features jazz until March 1953. It switches to Hillbilly music and changes its name to the Golden Nugget in April 1956, switches to rock music in 1956, and closes in 1969.
